Joseph McCarthy accused several different groups/individuals of being communist or being associated with the Soviet Union. This includes:

1) Hollywood - McCarthy attacked the movie industry and Hollywood in general. He felt that the movie industry had a tremendous impact on American society. If these individuals sympathized with communist and made movies about it, it would ruin American society. This is why he heavily attacked this industry.

2) US Military - McCarthy accused some of the top military aids in the US of being communist and said that there policies were not tough enough on fighting the spread of this system.
