How many miles long was the first fleet voyage? Why didn't the first fleet take the shorter route along the entire west coast of Africa?

    The First Fleet Voyage was 20,000 kilometers, which is 65,616,798 feet.

    It was decided not to take the shorter route, because t he "less direct" route to Australia had the advantages of trade and westerly winds.
