15. Ethan and John sold movie night tickets for

a school fundraiser. The price for a student

ticket was $3, while the price for an adult was

$6. The total number of tickets sold was 127.

The total money raised was $447. How many of

each ticket type was sold?

    Let ticket for adults be y

    x + y = 127 ... (1)

    3x + 6y = 447 ... (2)

    Making x as subject in (1)

    x = 127 - y ... (3)

    Substituting in (2)

    3 (127 - y) + 6y = 447

    381 - 3y + 6y = 447

    3y = 447 - 381

    3y = 66

    y = 66/3

    y = 22

    And x = 127 - y

    x = 127 - 22

    x = 105

    105 tickets were sold to student and 22/ticket were sold to adults
