A positively charged substance is brought near the ion. What will most likely happen and why?

    There are two cases in this problem:

    1). When the ion is positively charged:

    Now, the ion and the substance both are positively charged hence when brought together will repel each other because equal charged particles repel each other.

    2). When the ion is negatively charged

    Now, the substance is positively charged and the ion is negatively charged so both will attract each other because the particles with opposite charges attract each other.
