There are 30 girls trying out for lacrosse and only 12 made it. There are 40 boys who tried out and only 16 got in. Are the ratios of number of students on the team to number of students trying out the same for both boys and girls? Explain.

    Yes they are the same because if you put the ratio of 30:12 and simplify it by 6 that answer is 5:2 and 40:16 simplified by 8 is 5:2 that is how they are the same ratio

    It is not the same.

    The ratio for 30 to 12 simplified is to 5 to 3. The ratio for 40 to 16 simplified is 5 to 2. Since 5 to 3 is not the same as 5 to 2, the ratios are not the same. Also when you cross multiply (5 times 2 and 5 times 3) the products are not the same, so the ratios are not equal.
