First, you have to move the {7} over to the other side.
{7-4 (d-3) = 23}
{-4 (d-3) = 16}
Next, divide both sides by {-4}.
{-4 (d-3) = 16}
{d-3=4}
Last, move {-3} to the other side to get the answer.
{d-3=4}
{d=7}
So, d=7.

7 - 4 (d - 3) = 23
7 - 4d + 12 = 23
Subtract 12 from both sides,
7 - 4d = 11
Subtract 7 to both sides
- 4d = 4
Divide - 4 to both sides
d = - 1
