A circular clock face has a diameter of 7 inches. what is the area of the clock face? round to the nearest tenth.

    Since area is π r², and radius r is half the diameter d, you can say

    π r² = π (d/2) ² = (π / 4) d²

    for 7 inches that's π / 4 7² = (π / 4) (49) = 38.5 in²
