The width of a rectangle is 17 yd shorter than the length. The perimeter of the rectangle is 126 yd. Find the width of the rectangle.

    We have been given that the width is 17 yd shorter than the length.

    Therefore, w = l - 17

    Also, the perimeter = 126 yd

    2 (l + w) = 126

    l + w = 63

    l + (l - 17) = 63

    2l - 17 = 63

    2l = 63 + 17

    2l = 80

    l = 40 yd

    But, w = l - 17

    w = 40 - 17

    w = 23 yd.
