A train traveled 3/12 of the distance between two cities in 1/2 of an hour. At this rate, what fraction of the distance between the two cities can the train travel in one hour. Write a fraction.

    3/12 simplifies to 1/4.

    Since 1/2 of an hour is one whole hour, you must multiply 1/4 by two. This gives you 2/4, or 1/2.

    So the train travels 1/2 of the distance between the two cities in one hour.
