    23x - 13 = 2x + 4 distributive property

    23x - 2x - 13 = 2x - 2x + 4 subtraction property of equality (-2x)

    21x - 13 = 4 combine like terms

    21x - 13 + 13 = 4 + 13 addition property of equality (+13)

    21x = 17 combine like terrms

    21x / 21 = 17 / 21 division property of equality

    x = 17 / 21 21/21 = 1
