    length of side = 36 cm

    let x be the side of the square then x + 8 is the side of the triangle

    perimeter of square = 4x and

    perimeter of triangle = 3 (x + 8) + 4 = 3x + 24 + 4 = 3x + 28

    equating the perimeters

    4x = 3x + 28 (subtract 3x from both sides)

    x = 28

    length of side of triangle = x + 8 = 28 + 8 = 36 cm
