    4 (x) - 5=y 4 being the amount of shirts, x meaning the price of the shirts, 5 being the amount of money taken off by the coupon, y being the amount she pays.

    I'm going to answer this under the impression that the $5 coupon is $5 off, then it would be 4s-5=t, where s is shirts and t is the total after using the coupon.
