Maria has 5 6/7 square yards of fabric. She uses 2 2/3 square yards fo fabric to make a dress. Does she have enough fabric left over to make a shawl that takes 2 1/4 square yards of fabric?

    5 6/7 - 2 2/3 =

    5 - 2 = 3

    6/7 - 2/3 = 18/21 - 14/21 = 4/21

    3 + 4/21 = 3 4/21

    so she has 3 4/21 yds left over ... so yes, she has enough to make the shawl that takes 2 1/4 yds
