Two less than one third of a number is the same as three times the quantity of the number plus 2 solve for x

    (x/3) - 2 = 3x + 2

    (x/3) - 3x = 2+2

    x/3 - 9x/3 = 4

    -8x/3 = 4

    -8x = 12

    x=-12/8 = - 1.5

    x = - 1.5

    Check:

    (x/3) - 2 = 3x + 2

    (-1.5/3) - 2 = 3 * (-1.5) + 2

    -2.5 = - 2.5
