The surface area of a rectangular prism is 2LW + 2LH + 2WH, where L is the length, w is the width, and h is the height. Find the surface area of a prism whose length is 5 feet, width is 8 feet and height is 9 feet.

    We can simplify to get

    SA=2 (LW+LH+WH)

    substitute 5 for L, 8 for W and 9 for H

    SA=2 (5*8+5*9+8*9)

    SA=2 (40+45+72)

    SA=2 (157)

    SA=314

    the surface area is 314 square feet
