    Population growth is generally given by an exponential function,

    f (x) = a*b^x, where a is the original population, b = 1 + the rate of growth (written as a decimal number), and x is the amount of time. In our case we have

    p (1 + 0.065) ^1

    = p (1.065) = 1.065p
