    To solve, set an equation:

    First Number: x

    Second Number: 2x

    x+2x=36

    3x=36

    divide both sides by 3

    x=13

    First Number: (x) 12

    Second Number: (2x) 24

    Answers: 12 and 24

    Let smallest number be x then largest = 2x

    so x + 2x = 36

    3x = 36

    x = 12 and 2x = 24

    The 2 numbers are 12 and 24
