    2x^2 - 4x + 7 = 0

    x^2 - 2x + 3.5 = 0

    x^2 - 2x = - 3.5

    x^2 - 2x + 1 = 1 - 3.5

    (x - 1) ^2 = - 2.5

No solution because a quadratic term can't be negative.
