How do you write a function as an equation?

For example the input is 5 and the output is 10

the rule is + 5

if 5 was x and 10 was y

would the equation be

x = x+5

y = x+5

is this correct?

can you also provide an example?

    No x=5 since 5 is the input. The input is always equal to x and the output is always equal to y. So x=5 and y=x+5
