The value of a is equal to 34/12 or 17/6
10 + 3 (4 - 6a) = - (6a + 12)
Distributive property.
10 + 12 - 18a = - 6a - 12
Combine like terms.
22 - 18a = - 6a - 12
Add 18a to both sides.
22 = 12a - 12
Add 12 to both sides.
34 = 12a
Divide both sides by 12.
a = 34/12 = 2.8
