The number you would get is 8

how you get this answer is as followes

x is going to be your unknown number

you have to subtract 2 right? so you do:

    x-2

then it says the difference is multiplied by 5 so then you multiply it by 5

    5 (x-2)

then you just solve for x

your end result is 30 so you put that on the other side of the equation to solve for x

    5 (x-2) = 30

now to solve for x you have to distribute the 5 which gets rid of the parenthesis

    5x-10=30

now move the 10 over by adding

    step one 5x=30+10 step two 5x = 40

now you divide by 5 to get rid of the 5

    step 1) 5x/5=40/5 step 2) x=8

    the answer therefore is 8
