    First, you can rewrite the equation as 5x-10x=-100. You need to do this so that you can carry "x" to one side in order to solve it. Thus, 100 becomes - 100 because you’re carrying it to the other side. Then, you subtract. 5x-10x is - 5x. Now your equation is - 5x=-100. Divide both sides by - 5, so that you remove the negative and the coefficient. - 100/-5 is 20. This, x is equivalent to 20. You can check your work by substituting the value 20, instead of "x".

    5x+100=10x

    -5x on both sides (10x-5x=5x)

    100=5x

    divide by 5 on both sides (100/5 = 20)

    20=x
