Ultraviolet light with a frequency of 3.00x10^15 Hz strikes a metal surface and ejects electrons that have a maximum kinetic energy of 6.1 eV. What is the work function (in eV) of the metal? (h = 6.63x10^-34 J. s and 1 ev = 1.60x10^-19J)

    Frequency of 3 x 10¹⁵, wavelength = 3 x 10⁸/3 x 10¹⁵ = 10⁻⁷ m = 1000A.

    Energy in eV = 12375/1000 = 12.375 eV.

Maximum kinetic energy of ejected electrons = 6.1 eV

    Work function = 12.375 - 6.1 = 6.275 eV.
