    That's false. It goes back a lot farther than that. There's a verse in the Old Testament that speaks of the Lord as bringing out the mazzaroth. The mazzaroth is a Hebrew word that's understood to mean the constellations. The Hebrew wish "Mazal Tov" is related to that same word. It's literally a wish of "Good constellations!", or "Good astrology!", or "Good luck!".
