True, or False - Balanced Forces are equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions?

    This is true. Equal forces acting on a object in opposite directions are balanced. : 3

    Well, yes. Two equal forces acting in opposite directions is

    one possible example of a balanced group of forces.

    But there are many other ways to make a group of balanced forces.

    Example:

    A basketball sitting on the ground, with 10 thousand strings

    glued all over it, and 10 thousand kids all pulling on it in all

    different directions. We can't be sure, but with that many

    kids all pulling with different strengths in different directions,

    there's a good chance that they would all cancel each other,

    and the ball would not move at all. If that happened, then

    you would have a balanced group of 10 thousand forces!

    All I'm saying is: "Balanced forces" doesn't always have to be

    only two forces. It can be any number of forces, and if they all

    happen to add up to zero, then we say that the whole bunch

    is balanced.
