How was the great cultural revolution carried out and it's impact on China

The Cultural Revolution was the movement of middle schoolers getting brain washed by Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong wanted his ideology to stay alive. He told these kids to hurt or kill anyone who thinks he should not be in power. This eventually fell and thousands of people were dead.
