They have smaller leaves that sometimes only grow after it rains to prevent spending more energy as well as to reduce their loss of water; They also grow slower so they conserve energy. They also have longer or wider spread root systems that tap into deeper, underground water. An example of an adaption would be cacti, seeing as they have spines instead of leaves which protect it from animals as well as to reduce moisture loss.
