    Political activism was seen at that time of 1800s were of men' activity but the women joined the temperance movement which had a main goal of staying abstinent from Alcoholic consumption. With the expansion of education, and participating in the social protests like temperance movements, women began to ask and claim their rights of being considered as a responsible citizen of the country and hence they started the women suffrage movement asking for their rights of enfranchisement.

    Temperance movements focused on the prohibition of the alcohol consumption, Volstead act brought a complete ban on the alcoholic consumption but then it was vetoed and thereby putting an end to the prohibition. Though women participated in the temperance movements, they started their protest against the government for claiming their individual rights in the society.
