    Bargaining

    Explanation:

Bargaining is the third stage of dying in Kubler Ross. This the stage when a patient gets to know that he/she on a nearby death bed. He agrees with God that I will never do the wrong thing if I get to heal. I will never do complain about anything.

Thus in the above statement, Thomas is on the third stage, called bargaining. These stages were proposed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross's dying stage.
