The given statement "The articles of confederation provided a strong central government for the United States. The states had very little power" is false.

    Answer: False

    Explanation:

This confederation was an alliance between 13 actual states of USA and served its first constitution. The articles of confederation was resulted into construction of weak central government. Because these articles were framed or enriched with only those powers which former colonies use to practice who were belonging to King.

So, after "Shays's Rebellion" the political government started demanding for amendments in the Articles. The focus of responding so was to build stronger government and resulted into "Constitutional Convention". But soon they realized that they need elimination of Articles rather than corrections or substitution. Finally "Federal Government" under the constitution was introduced to showcase stronger head of the nation.
