The steps taken by the president (Salvador Allende) are not the ones you would normally think would lead to a coup, but they were opposed by the powers behind the coup, as they were seen as socialist. Some examples include:

-fighting illiteracy

- (perhaps easier to see as a reason for a coup) : nationalized industry and agriculture

-introduced government control of the health system
