Who developed the national convention to nominate presidential candidates?

    The first national convention for presidential candidates was held in 1832 by the Democratic Party. Interestingly, the first convention was less about nominating a candidate for President. Andrew Jackson had the majority of the support. The convention was more focused on finding him a running mate for vice president. Eventually they would in Martin Van Buren.
