A big explanation that so many men simultaneously migrated westward had to do with the 1851 gold find. The prospect of something like a better standard of living was perhaps the most significant explanation for the migration to the west. Too many people throughout the colonies existed in misery and mass displacement happened even though the chance arises itself.
