On the TLC plate show the spots from the SM (on the left), spot from the reaction mixture after 3 min of reaction time (center) and spot from the reaction mixture after 10 min of reaction time (on the right). What is more polar, the product or the SM?

    Answer: The Sample Mixture (SM) is more polar than the product, because it takes the SM only 3mins in the stationary phase, which is at the left hand side, and 10mins at the mobile phase which is at the right hand side. A polar SM elute more faster in the stationary phase, than its mobile phase when products are formed.

    Explanation: TLC means Thine Layer Chromatography, it is used to know the components of a compound, and how pure each component is in the compound. It has two phase. The stationary phase where the components are solids, and the mobile phase where the components are liquid.

    Polar component elutes more faster in the stationary phase, when compared to its mobile phase.
