    The Middle Colonies.

Farms in New England were mostly small and subsistence-based, so the owner's family did most of the work. Therefore there were few slaves and few indentured servants.

The plantations in the south were large and relied heavily on slavery. There were many slaves.

In the Middle Colonies (Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) farmers used mostly indentured servant on their farms. Only a small percentage of workers were slaves.
