Prohibition era, was popularly known as the period in which the 18th Amendment came into effect in the U. S. Constitution, which specifically banned the manufacture and distribution or sale of alcohols.

Prohibition was eventually drafted by the states on January 16, 1919 and officially went into effect on January 17, 1920, with the passage of the Volstead Act.

However, there were lots of problems accompanying Prohibition period, among which are: gangsterism, bottlegging, speakeasies, organized crimes and more. Thus, the needs to repeal the 18th Amendment, with the 21st Ammendment.

Hence, the Twenty-first Amendment was proposed by Congress on February 20, 1933, and was passed by the requisite number of states on December 5, 1933, the process which took longer period of time to accomplish.
