The following is the difference between standard food and functional food and the reason why it should be distinguished so:

Standard food: It is the food that we consume daily. It provides only the necessary nutrients that are required by the body to maintain the levels of energy and to carry out other basic functions.

Functional food: It is the food that dispenses special health benefits by providing extra nutrition along with the nutrition that we get from standard food.

The reason why it is necessary to have a distinction between these two types of food:

Eating functional food more frequently or in excessive amounts can cause problems associated with digestion and metabolism. It is preferable to consume functional food only occasionally.
