Andrew Jackson became the U. S President in 1828 and was re-elected for office in 1832. A military man in essence, people of his own group of friends opposed him as an option for the presidency on the basis of his not having held any kind of office. During his time as leader, two parties formed from the group he used to share with due to the differences in views on how government should be handled and the role of government in the national lifestyle. Thus, one part of the group formed the party that was known as the National Republicans, another formed a party called the Anti-Masonic party, who later joined the Republicans and Andrew Jackson and his friends formed, though at the time still not yet officially called that way, the popular Democratic Party.
