According to Incentive theories there are two types of motivation - extrinsic and intrinsic. If you are driven by rewards in the form of outside objects like money, you would respond and utilize extrinsic motivation. If you are on the contrary, driven by internal rewards, like experience or joy from the process, you are likely to respond and utilize intrinsic motivation.

    Explanation:

For example, you are attracted mostly by incentives or rewards (extrinsic motivation), not so much the process or journey that gets them there.

Let's say you want to get good grades at school not because you will get smarter and become fulfilled in life, but solely because you know that presenting good grades to your parents will get you extra rewards - PS5 or more pocket money.
