A boat has a speed of 9 mph in cold water. it takes the boat 4 hours to travel upstream but only 2 hours to travel the same distance downstream. which equation can be used to find c, the speed of the current

    (1) 9*4 - 4c = x

    (2) 9*2 + 2c = x

    ∴ 36 - 4c = 18 + 2c

    18 - 4c = 2c

    9 - 2c = c

    9 = 3c

    c = 3 mph
