The early English settlers in North America considered the Indians inferiors in several aspects:

1 - They certainly considered them "technologically inferior" as the Indians had nearly no technology back then.

2 - They considered them "moral and spiritual inferior". The English settlers had certain religious views and believed that those who did not turn into Christianity were inferiors.

Later in the 19th century, the concept of "sub humans" was developed by Darwin. English settlers thought of Indians as "sub humans".
