    An asthma attack is a sudden worsening of asthma symptoms caused by the muscles around your airways tightening. During the asthma attack, the lining of the airways become inflamed and thicker mucus is produced by your body.

    Some triggers particularly affect children with asthma and can make the inflammation in their lungs even worse. The common cold is one of the most frequent triggers for asthma attacks in very young children.
