    An overwhelming majority of 97 percent of the population claimed one ancestry only according to the 2010 census. Some of them claimed they were white, some Asian, some black, but over 299 million people claimed only one race. Only 3 percent of people claimed they had numerous ancestries, which is about nine million people.
