English Americans relocated the Cherokee to make use of the land and natural resources in Cherokee territory, as well as to create a peaceful distance between Cherokee and English American settlements. Some Cherokees were willing to move, accepting provisions and the offer of new territory. Others did not want to give up their sacred land.
