How do you calculate the acceleration when you dont have any velocity?

    First step: Convert 24kg to Newtons by multiplying by gravity, or 9.8.

    You get 235.2 N

    Next: F = m*a

    If you draw a free body diagram, you will notice that the Net Force is equal to the Applied Force minus the Frictional Force.

    Frictional Force is Ff = μ * Fn

    Ff =.23 * 235.2

    585 - 54.096 = 24*a

    530.904 = 24*a

    a = 22.121 m/s

    Use a=fnet/m where f net is the net force on the entire system and m is the mass of the entire system.
