American Revolution had short and long term effects on both involved sides - The British Empire and the USA.

The most important long term effect was the end of mercantilism, that was imposed by the British Empire prior to the American Revolution. It included various restrictions on colonies, like limiting manufacturing, trade and settlements.

In the short term, Britain's economy was strongly affected, but they recovered from the loss at the expense of other colonies. American victory over the Britain Empire and monarchism showed need for liberation in the rest of the world. Mainly in Europe, where people started to unrest against monarchs authority. For example, during pre-phase of the French Revolution.
