Imperialism consisted of international competition for territory acquisition. While Great Britain was most dominant, most industrialized nations took part in seizing African and Asian territories. The resources from these territories were then used to enhance the effects of industrialization and the growth of militarism/military funding. Subsequently, some nations decided it was in their best interest to arrange for alliances in anticipation of war. These alliances included the Triple Alliance, and the Triple Entente, which carried through to WWI.
