As someone who has been going to bed at around 3-4 am (sometimes even later), for the last 7-8 years; I can tell you that it's definitely not a good thing.

Keep in mind that our body has a natural clock of its own. Various functions of our body go ON and OFF depending on our body clock. By staying up late, you're stressing your body a LOT and messing up its natural processes.

And the effects are clearly visible:

    1. Increase in irritability. You become cranky and get irritated very easily.

    2. Mess up your digestive system. You will suffer from frequent hyperacidity, constipation, indigestion and basically your entire GI system will be affected.

    3. Weight gain. As your force yourself to stay up, you mess up the Circadian Rhythm put a lot of stress on your body, which in turn, greatly increases your Cortisol and depletes your Serotonin levels. An increase in Cortisol levels has been shown to have a direct relation with increased abdominal fat.

    4. Weaker vision. Your vision starts to become weak because of the stress suffered by your body.

    5. Hair loss.

    6. Decreased libido

    7. Overall weakness.

    8. Dullness of skin.

Apart from this, there are a lot of things that goes wrong within our body, but their effects are not apparent in the short term.

Staying up late has much more serious implications on your body than you think.

I am still trying to get out of this habit, but just like any other habit, it's hard to break. Moreover my work often requires me to stay up late into the night.
