The American society has always functioned based on political and social ideals such as democracy, unity, diversity and equality. Although the definition and how it can be achieved has been debated since time imemorial, the vast majority of the citizens of the United States believe in these values.

Recently, many believe the country has "woken"-as what the millenials refer to the wisdom the general public has acquired about respect and inclusion. Equality has greatly impacted the country's politics, media and overall social functioning. The media has encouraged discussions of all ideas from people with many different backgrounds, treating each voice with equal worth. This has kept a steady pressure to keep the changes and continue to challenge principles so that equality is upheld in every step of the country's progress.
