The Benin Art originated from the Benin Kingdom of old Edo empire, however, today, it is in under the South-South region of Nigeria. Some fo Benin artifacts are also found in the British museums.

The brass plaques was primarily produced for the Royal court of their spiritual and paramount ruler popularly know as the Oba of Benin. As to the technique used by the artists to make the Oba stand out. The artists made the Oba the biggest of all the other figures and then placed the Oba in the center of the plaque. The Oba was adorned with more details such as royal clothing and jewelry. The rest of the figures were smaller and had fewer details, this made the Oba of Benin stand out.
